Senior-to-Sophomore Program

CSU-Pueblo is committed to building the bridges that will provide a seamless K-16 educational system. As part of this effort, the Division of Continuing Education sponsors the Senior-to-Sophomore Program, which provides opportunities for advanced junior and senior high school students to take college-level courses at their high schools.

The program is a modification of the Post-Secondary Options Program that has been enacted through legislation.

Secondary students can enroll in college courses normally taught at CSU-Pueblo campus. These dual credit courses are taught at their local high schools by instructors who have been approved through the academic departments at the university.

The courses are identical in content to those at the university, so high school students are able to get a head start on their college careers. Currently over fifteen high schools in southern Colorado participate in the program.

The goals of the Senior-to-Sophomore Program are to increase student knowledge and skills, to influence positively their college preparatory curriculum, to motivate students to attend college, and to increase their likelihood of graduating form a college in a timely manner. Most of the courses offered in the program meet freshman/sophomore core General Education Requirements at the university and are suitable for transfer to other Colorado 2-year and 4-year institutions.

Typical courses in this program include courses from the areas of English, History, Biology, Economics, Sociology, and Foreign Language, among others.

In addition, another feature of this program is the low tuition cost. Because of the unique structure of the program, the university can offer these courses at $49 per credit hour. So there is potential for saving thousands of dollars in tuition, in addition to graduating from college in a shorter time.

For more information on the program contact the Division of Continuing Education at 719-549-2162, toll free 1-800-388-6154.
