This course examines the historical background of Corrections and its underlying philosophy. The course integrates an examination of corrections policy and ideological issues in current-day practices.

• TEST: The test will consist of five essay questions taken from material covered in the class text. Each question will require the student to demonstrate an understanding of the material pertinent to the respective question. Each question will require a full-page (typed and double-spaced) response and or discussion of the pertinent material.
  
  
• PAPER: Each student will be required to submit a paper of no less than 8 pages. This paper is to be typed and double-spaced with one to one and one half-inch margins. Any issue mentioned in the text may be the subject of the paper but must include other research, such as corrections books, articles, journal reports etc. The source must be footnoted and listed in an attached Bibliography. Personal interview may also be used and the source included in the attached Bibliography. Students must relate the information in their papers to the text material.
