DESCRIPTION
The history and role of police; including patrol officers, detectives, specialty units, police discretion, women in policing, community policing, private policing, corruption, brutality, accountability.

REQUIRED MATERIALS & TEXTBOOKS
Book L. K. Gaines and V. E. Kappeler,  Policing in America (fifth edition). Anderson, 2005.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Students must complete four course assignments and an open-book exam. Assignments cover specific chapters in the text. The final take-home exam covers the entire course.
