This course was developed to provide an analysis of how social, cultural, and psychological factors influence health and health care.
The course is designed to provide a broad overview of the interaction between health issues, culture, and society, particularly as they are experienced
in western societies. Topics examined in the course include the application of major socio-theoretical perspectives to various issues surrounding health
care, an examination of those issues in popular culture, the experience of being ill, power relations in the medical setting, and a feminist perspective on medicine.
