REQUIRED MATERIALS & TEXTBOOKS
Book Holley, William H., Kenneth M. Jennings, and Roger S. Wolters.  The Labor Relations Process, Harcourt College Publishers:  Orlando, Florida, 8th Edition 2005. ISBN: 0-324-20014-5

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Four Lesson Assignments – each lesson is worth 50 points. Prepare a complete response to the questions assigned in the textbook.

  • There are two possible final paper/projects to choose from:

  • Create mythical company x or government entity x.  Assign the type of business, number of employees, time in business and type of bargaining unit.  Develop a model contract for this company or governmental entity, which includes, but is not limited to management rights, union rights, grievance procedures, seniority, lay-off/bumping procedures, benefits, labor management committees, term of agreement, and those other provisions which you feel belong in a agreement.  This contract should be approximately fifteen pages in length.   You may use an existing agreement as a reference, if you cite it, however, this one should contain your own ideas.   At the end of each section of the contract, provide a brief explanation as to why you chose the terms of the provision.

  • OR: Obtain a collective bargaining agreement from a company or governmental organization.  Analyze the strengths and weakness of the provisions of the contract.  Interview both an employee who works under the contract and manager who administers the contract and include their comments.  How could this contract be improved?  What would you include or exclude from the contract.  The paper should contain approximately fifteen pages.
