HIST 414 – American Civil War

DETAILS Semester-hour credits: 3 Tuition: $448.50 Methods: DESCRIPTION History 414 (The American Civil War) will acquaint the student with the major events contributing to the outbreak of the American Civil War. It also will provide the student with a basic understanding of the progress of the war. REQUIRED MATERIALS & TEXTBOOKS James M. McPherson, Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era. ISBN: 0345359429 Ballantine Books, Inc., 1989. COURSE REQUIREMENTS There will be three proctored examinations during the semester. Examinations will consist of a set of objective questions (i.e., multiple choice) and an essay that will cover a broader subject area. Attachments to this syllabus provide sample objective and essay questions to assist the student’ s preparation for examinations. Book Review: Before completing the course, the student will submit a book review of approximately 500-1,000 words. The student, with instructor approval, may choose a book for this assignment.
