This is a two (2) credit hour course that may be taken at the undergraduate or graduate
level. It meets Colorado Department of Education requirements for teacher certification/licensure.
This course provides a familiarization to concepts and issues in K-12 educational assessment. Students will
learn assessment planning; including the constructing, analyzing, and application of assessment data. The course
textbook has a primary focus on understanding the documentation of student performance and prepares the student
for both instructional and accountability purposes. The course textbook is written to review fifteen chapters; chapter 1 & 2
reviews rationale for teachers' understanding assessment, chapters 3 & 4 reviews validity and reliability and the need for
an absence of teacher bias; chapters 5 - 12 reviews assessment and the kinds of test instruments available
to teachers; chapters 13 - 15 reviews test interpretation, test preparation procedures and evaluation of teaching
and the use of data. A fair amount of attention has been given to the implications of the No Child Left
Behind Act (NCLB), signed into law on Jan. 8, 2002. Furthermore, agree with the textbook author... "
competent educational professionals these days simply must know something about assessment because students' test
scores are the chief indicators of educational quality."
This course is suitable for upper division undergraduate and graduate level students. At the time of registration,
the student must indicate the appropriate level for transcript purposes.

|
Read the entire textbook. There are two proctored exams. There is no time limit
while taking the test. However, the examination has to be completed in one sitting.
There is a 25- item mid-term course examination. It is based on chapter 1 through chapter
7. You will have a 50-item final examination (both exams are multiple choice). The final covers
content from all 15 chapters. Test items are selected from the author's test bank.
