Chemistry 101 is meant for those students requiring a one semester introductory course for non-science majors.
This course is presented with a fascinating series of videos narrated by one of the outstanding scientists of
this century, Nobel Laureate, Dr. Ronald Hoffman. Readings from the text, The World of Chemistry Essentials,
accompany the videos. The text was designed to accompany the video series. The course consists of 13 lessons.
Each lesson consists of two half-hour videos and associated readings from the text. Communication with the
instructor via e-mail is encouraged.

| CHEM 101L: Chemistry and Society - Lab |

The course lab consists of ten exercises from the text World of Chemistry Essentials Study Guide to be done at
home. No special equipment or chemicals are required. Co-requisite: CHEM 101.

| CHEM 211: Introduction to Organic Chemistry |
| 3 semester-hour credits - Tuition $417, videotape $75 |
Study of aliphatic and aromatic compounds including current theories, nomenclature, properties, synthesis,
reactions, mechanisms and spectroscopy. Emphasis will be on comprehension, understanding and applications of
molecular behavior and relevance of the subject to everyday life applications. This course is for students
requiring a survey of organic chemistry in one semester. It is not intended for chemistry majors or
pre-professional students requiring an in-depth introduction to the subject. Material presented through
videotapes, correlated with assigned readings from the course text and study guide. E-mail available.
Prerequisite: CHEM 111.
